I have had numerous calls and emails from Act! users over the course of the last month asking me if Act! will work with Windows 10. I’ve also had a number of calls from users who have updated to Windows 10 with various outcomes.
My advice? If you are using Act! v16 or older I would not recommend upgrading to Windows 10 unless you also upgrade your version of Act!. Swiftpage plans to release a hotfix release for Act! v17 sometime in the near future to make sure that Act! v17 is fully compatible with Windows 10. And rest assured that Act! v18, which is expected to be released before the end of the year, will work seamlessly with Windows 10.
If you have already upgraded to Windows 10 there are a couple of features that may or may not stop working in Act!:
- The SQL Server (Act7) instance does not start automatically. Click here to learn how to restart SQL.
- The folder permissions for the documents you store in Act! may change causing Act! to crash when you access the Documents tab. Click here to find a solution.

for the last year or so Act v16 will not sink with my google calendar. I tried to do the instructions and the upgrade of something in windows would not go through.
My question is if I upgrade to windows 10 and upgrade to Act v18 when it is available will I be able to sink to my google calendar again.
I have a Dell xps machine about 2 years old and have windows 7 professional on this machine. I use it 6 hrs a day and really need to sink my act with my google calendar. I have been using act since 1993.
Please give me a very clear answer to this issue.
Hi Chris,
Synching with Google is tricky at best. The problem is that Google periodically makes changes to their code which in turn prevents it from working with other software including Act. I’m not surprised that you say it’s been about a year since you were last able to synch. Google made a major change last November, and another one this past May. Both times it knocked out the Act integration to Google.
Upgrading to windows 10 isn’t the fix but upgrading to the latest version of Act is. When Google makes a change Swiftpage only makes the appropriate changes to the current Act version, not to versions past, so your v16 won’t be “fixed.”
Your other alternative is to go with something like companion link. Their product syncs Act to Google (and ultimately your phone) and create the needed fixes fairly quickly.
