I have had numerous calls and emails from Act! users over the course of the last month asking me if Act! will work with Windows 10. I’ve also had a number of calls from users who have updated to Windows 10 with various outcomes.
My advice? If you are using Act! v16 or older I would not recommend upgrading to Windows 10 unless you also upgrade your version of Act!. Swiftpage plans to release a hotfix release for Act! v17 sometime in the near future to make sure that Act! v17 is fully compatible with Windows 10. And rest assured that Act! v18, which is expected to be released before the end of the year, will work seamlessly with Windows 10.
If you have already upgraded to Windows 10 there are a couple of features that may or may not stop working in Act!:
- The SQL Server (Act7) instance does not start automatically.
- The folder permissions for the documents you store in Act! may change causing Act! to crash when you access the Documents tab.
If you would like to upgrade to Act! v17 please feel free to contact the Act! Consultants at Tech Benders for upgrade pricing. We’re here to answer your questions!
